AKIPRESS.COM - Tajikistan's representative in Collective Security Treaty Organization Hasan Sultonov at the virtual meeting of the CSTO permanent council on the situation on the Tajik-Afghan border on July 7 has asked assistance from CSTO member states.
"Tajikistan, as the country with the lengthiest border with Afghanistan, undertakes actions to restrain situation and counter challenges and threats coming from this country. But given some sections of the border with Afghanistan are in hard-to-reach mountainous areas and in view of the situation in the region, it wil be difficult for Tajikistan to cope with this task alone," he said.
"The necessity of realization of the resolution of the Collective Security Council of 23 September 2013 on assistance to Tajikistan in reinforcement of the Tajik-Afghan border remains relevant. We would like to calle upon CSTO member states to make their contribution into implementation of this document," Hasan Sultonov said.
Kyrgyzstan's State National Security Committee Chairman Kamchibek Tashiev gave affirmative answer earlier today when asked if Kyrgyzstan is ready to send its troops to Tajikistan as a CSTO member state.
