AKIPRESS.COM - The Bishkek city court has canceled ruling of the Sverdlovskiy district court on termination of investigation into Azimzhan Askarov's death.
Human rights defender Askarov died of pneumonia on July 25, 2020 in prison where he served life sentence.
Askarov was handed life imprisonment on 15 September 2010 for participation in mass disorders, fomenting ethnic hatred, murder of police officer and injuring police officers during June 2010 ethnic violence in Bazar-Korgon district.
Some human rights groups said Askarov was convicted unlawfully and suffered for his human rights work. International organizations urged Kyrgyz authorities to reconsider Askarov's case and drop all charged against him.
