AKIPRESS.COM - One of the belongings of UK climber Mehri Jafari has been found during the search and rescue operation in the mountains where the climber had gone missing, her relatives reported on social media. Mehri Jafari is a lone climber from London of Iranian origin. Two climbers were reportedly climbing one of the peaks in Issyk-Kul region. The missing person report was received by the Ministry of Emergency Situations at approximately 16:30 on August 8 from the Iranian Embassy in Kyrgyzstan.
Mehri Jafari's family expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the search efforts. They assume that Mehri might have fallen from the mountain slope. After the search of the dangerous terrain, the rescuers found one item belonging to Mehri.
On August 1, the group of climbers took off from the base camp South Inylchek to the Victory Peak. On August 4 at approximately at 4 p.m. Bishkek time, a satellite phone message from the Hungarian mountaineers who were ascending at that moment informed that they saw a man falling from a height of approximately 6,300 meters.
On August 4, at about 6:00 p.m., the Iranian climbers' team confirmed that Mehri Jafari had left behind them and was not with them at the moment. The Iranian climbers were instructed by the head of the base camp, Dmitry Grekov, to start searching for Jafari. The Iranian team was not in contact again that day.
Another Iranian climber, Adien Reza, also fell during the ascent. According to preliminary reports, Reza fell from the ridge toward China. A helicopter was called in to search for Jafari, but so far no results were achieved.
