Bishkek, May 20, 2019. / Kabar /. Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov met with the participants of the meeting of the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, the Kyrgyz President’s press service reported.
"The current situation in the world and regions requires closer cooperation at all levels. It is gratifying that you are constantly discussing the state and prospects of international and military-political interaction. The principles of fighting modern challenges and threats require convergence of the national legislations of our countries. Much work is being done by you on the harmonization of the national legislations of the Member States of the Organization. Measures are being taken to further improve the system of collective security and its legal support. The recommendations of the Parliamentary Assembly, aimed at improving the regulatory framework of the CSTO member states are of great importance. The practical result is the draft model laws of the CSTO member states on defense and security issues," said Jeenbekov.
He stressed that the trend towards the development of the situation in the region dictates the need to take effective measures for the effectiveness of the Organization. The CSTO Parliamentary Assembly can make even more contributions to the fruitful cooperation of our countries.
Noting the passive implementation of the decision of the heads of state on the formation of the Unified list of organizations recognized as terrorist in the format of the Organization, as the Chairman of the Collective Security Council, Jeenbekov asked to speed up the introduction of relevant changes in their national legislation.
Vyacheslav Volodin, the Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, spoke on behalf of the heads of the CSTO Parliaments.
He noted that it was important to hear the wishes and suggestions of Jeenbekov, given that Kyrgyzstan is a country chairing the CSTO.
"For the Parliamentary Assembly, it is extremely important to understand the vision of the development strategy of our organization. We will consider, as a matter of priority, the proposals that you made, so that in the future we could make decisions on the harmonization of legislation on the key issues of our agenda, but also address issues of bringing our positions closer together on issues related to building a common security system, countering terrorism and forming a common legal field," Volodin said.
In conclusion, President Jeenbekov noted that the agenda of the on-site meeting of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Council is rich and relevant. Decisions made today contribute to strengthening the overall defense security and countering contemporary challenges and threats.
"Together, we will be able to ensure collective security and adequately confront new risks and dangers. I am confident that the meeting of the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly will traditionally be held in a constructive way and with useful results. I wish you active discussions, fruitful work at the meeting," the head of Kyrgyzstan summed up.
