Bishkek, June 10, 2019. / Kabar /. The Asian Development Bank will provide financial resources for the rehabilitation of sewage facilities in Karakol and Balykchy towns of Kyrgyzstan.
The Parliament’s Committee on Budget and Finance approved the draft law "On ratification of the Agreement between Kyrgyzstan and the Asian Development Bank on the project "Issyk-Kul Waste Water Management", signed on Dec. 28, 2018 in Bishkek, and the Grant Agreement between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Asian Bank Development under the project "Issyk-Kul Wastewater Management", signed on Dec. 28, 2018 in Bishkek.
Thus, the goal of the project is to improve and expand access to reliable, uninterrupted and affordable sewage services in the cities of Balykchy and Karakol. According to the agreement, the Asian Development Bank will provide USD 41.82 million for the project, of which USD 12.84 million - a grant, USD 23.68 million - a loan. The loan is granted for a period of 32 years, including 8 years of grace period.
Director of the State Agency for Architecture, Construction and Housing and Communal Services, Baktybek Abdiyev, said that within the framework of the project it is planned to rehabilitate 65 percent of the sewage in Karakol, while in the city of Balykchy 45 percent of the sewage will be renovated. It became known that a similar project is planned to be implemented in the future in Naryn.
