AKIPRESS.COM - Parliament of Kyrgyzstan adopted a resolution on bringing charges against ex-President Almazbek Atambayev to strip him of his status of ex-President on June 20.
100 MPs voted for and 5 MPs voted against. The members of SDPK faction Anvar Artykov, Alfiya Samigullina, Karamat Orozova, Asel Koduranova, and Irina Karamushkina voted against.
The resolution will be submitted to the General Prosecutor's office for giving legal assessment.
A special parliamentary commission was created to give a conclusion on stripping Atambayev of his immunity.
On June 17, the commission brought accusations against Atambayev. Atambayev was accused of illegal freeing of crime boss Aziz Batukayev from prison, concealment of income, illegal land purchase, corruption in the modernization of the Bishkek power plant and the illegal supply of coal to the power plant, suppressing and persecution of opponents.
Representatives from all 6 factions of the parliament made it to the commission composition.
Atambayev was the President of Kyrgyzstan in 2011-2017 and became the first Kyrgyz leader to peacefully leave the post after end of his term. He supported incumbent President Sooronbai Jeenbekov during the presidential campaign. In 1.5 years, two former Prime Ministers, two former Bishkek mayors, a number of high-ranking officials from Atambayev's team were prosecuted.
