Bishkek, July 4, 2019. /Kabar/. The Government of Kyrgyzstan has decided to accede to the Agreement on the Establishment of the Global Green Growth Institute. Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev, the Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, has signed the relevant decree, the press service of the Government reported.
Development of green economy in the Kyrgyz Republic is one of the important priority areas, noted in long-term and medium-term strategic documents.
On behalf of the prime minister, the Kyrgyz Ministry of Economy has developed and submitted for consideration the Government Decree and the Law "On the accession of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Agreement on the Establishment of the Global Green Growth Institute, signed on June 20, 2012 in Rio de Janeiro". The document was sent to the Parliament for consideration.
The GGGI is headquartered in Seoul, South Korea. The organization's Council is chaired by former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
Over the past two years, the Institute has helped mobilize more than $1 billion in investment in countries where it has been present and operating.
To date, 28 countries have ratified the Agreement on Establishment of the GGGI. The European Union and 18 other countries have submitted a letter of intent to the Director-General formally announcing their intention to join the Institute. The Institute itself has begun to work with a further 27 countries and regional integration organizations, including Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan.
The GGGI’s work in Kyrgyzstan provides for the opening of a local office to coordinate the activities of the organization, which will strengthen the international status of the country in the field of green economy development.
At present, the Kyrgyz Government's program for the development of green economy 2019-2023 has been developed and is being coordinated.
