AKIPRESS.COM - The State Penitentiary Service of Kyrgyzstan responded to Director of the National Center for Prevention of Torture Nurdin Sulaimanov, who claimed that prisoners are sleeping in turn due to a shortage of beds in the remand prison #5 in the city of Osh. The statement says that a shortage of beds in wards is due to the repair works in the prison today. In this regard, the wards are overcrowded currently, the Service noted.
"We notice that this situation will be resolved in the nearest future. After completion of works, prisoners will return to their repaired wards. There are no complains from the prisoners to the administration of the SIZO," the statement said.
According to the State Penitentiary Service, the building of the SIZO-5 is old, as it was built during the time of the tsarist Russian empire. The reconstruction was needed, it explained.
