Jeenbekov: Special Forces did not use live ammunition in response to use of firearms by Atambayev's side

Bishkek, Aug.8, 2019. /Kabar/. "Despite the fact that the Atambayev’s side used firearms, the Special Forces did not use live ammunition," Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenebkov stressed during the extraordinary meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, held today.
The head of state emphasized that measures had been taken to prevent the situation from deteriorating.
"In order to prevent bloodshed, rubber bullets were used. We thought it was better to sacrifice the authority’s credibility than to shed the blood of our compatriots," Jeenbekov stressed.
The President noted that a criminal case has been initiated on the above facts, and the perpetrators will be punished.
"If until yesterday Atambayev was invited to the investigator as a witness, now he will be treated as a suspect in a serious crime," said President Jeenbekov.
He added that all measures would be taken to preserve the rule of law, peace and security in the country.
"Prompt measures will be taken. Today I held an extraordinary meeting of the Security Council of the country. Decisions have been taken on the current situation in the village of Koi-Tash. We will not allow the separation of the people and the creating of an unstable situation. The state has the strength and means to do so," the President said.
