AKIPRESS.COM - The State Customs Service of Kyrgyzstan proposes to resume work of the earlier closed checkpoints between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. The proposal is aimed at additional contacts between the states due to the increase of trade turnover and cargo transportations.
Spokeswoman of the Customs Service Gulmira Borubayeva told Azattyk that 8 out of 15 checkpoints between the countries are operating today. Most of the checkpoints were closed after 2005 events in Kyrgyzstan. Later, after Kyrgyz and Uzbek presidents imporved their relations, some checkpoints started working again in 2016.
"Others are closed from the Uzbek side. If the governments of two countries take a decision to resume works of the other checkpoints, they will begin operating," Borubayeva noted.
