Tashkent, Aug.14, 2019. /Kabar/. According to international legal norms, the Open Skies regime will be introduced on Oct. 1 this year at the Qarshi, Nukus, Termez and Bukhara international airports with the application of the fifth freedom of the air, when transporting foreign citizens. This is stated in the decree of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev "On measures for further development of tourism in Uzbekistan," the Uzbek media reported.
The Ministry of Transport, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has been instructed within two months to ensure that the aviation authorities of foreign states and foreign air carriers, including through diplomatic channels, are informed of the list of international airports in Uzbekistan, which introduce the Open Skies regime.
The Treaty on Open Skies is a multilateral international treaty, signed on 24 Mar., 1992 by representatives of 23 member states of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
The purpose of the Treaty is to promote confidence-building among states by improving the mechanisms for monitoring military activities and compliance with existing arms control treaties.
The Treaty establishes the Open Skies regime, the purpose of which is to enable its parties to over flight each other's territories.
