46% of Kyrgyz-Tajik border are undefined — State Border Service

AKIPRESS.COM - 46% of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border are disputed, chief of state border protection management department of the State Border Service of Kyrgyzstan Turat Asakeyev told Birinchi Radio on September 16. According to him, the main reason for conflicts on border with Tajikistan is undefined sections on border.
"Particularly undefined sections are densely population, therefore, misunderstandings and conflicts occur between residents of two sides," Asakeyev noted.
The total length of state border with Tajikistan is 970.8 km, including 519 km (54%) are defined, 450.8 km (46%) undefined sections.
To hold explanatory works with locals, the first Deputy Chairman of the State Border Service Abdikarim Alimbayev headed to Batken region, Asakeyev said.
On September 14, several dozens of locals gathered in Tort-Kocho village of Batken region outraged by activities of the Tajik side, which started construction works on border area.
According to preliminary reports, construction works began on September 14 at abpout 11:00 am on the area bordering with the village of Maksat village, Leilek district, Batken region.
