More than half of Bishkek's filling stations do not meet safety requirements. This was announced at a meeting of the Standing Committee on Municipal Property, Land Issues, Urban Planning and Architecture of the Bishkek City Council.
As the Head of the City Planning Department of Bishkekglavarchitektura municipal enterprise Aziret Akimov noted, the Bishkek City Administration created a working group in May to check the activities of filling stations.

At that time, the City Council extended the moratorium on the allocation of plots for construction of filling stations in areas bounded by Tokombaev - Sadyrbaev Streets - Zhibek Zholu - Kurmanjan Datka Avenues," he said.
There are 96 filling stations in Bishkek. According to the State Environmental and Technical Safety Inspectorate, 32 of them do not meet fire safety requirements.
"But the commission, having inspected them, came to the conclusion that 57 filling stations do not meet the requirements, 42 of them - fire safety requirements, 15 do not comply with environmental and urban planning documents," said Aziret Akimov.

"The commission proposed not to extend lease agreements with filling stations where violations have been detected. If they are located on private land plots or partially on municipal land, one has to contact the law enforcement authorities. In case of non-compliance with city-planning documentation, the issue of redemption of land plots and relocation of the stations should be raised," he said.
