AKIPRESS.COM - President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguli Berdimuhamedov met President of Italy Sergio Mattarella at Palazzo del Quirinale, the presidential palace, the state news agency TDH reports.
The Guard of Honor was lined up at the square in front of the Palace in honor of the Turkmen President.
After performance of national anthems, the Presidents of two countries headed to the venue of talks.
After the joint picture taking ceremony in the Arazzi di Lilla hall, the top-level bilateral meeting was held at the level of delegations.
Italy is ready to continue a broad cooperation with Turkmenistan, the Italian President said.
Turkmenistan sees this official visit to Italy as an important stage in development of interstate relations.
The countries reaffirmed commitment to countering such threats as international terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and trans-boundary national crime.
Italy is an important partner for Turkmenistan on the world political arena, President Berdimuhamedov said.
Strategic areas of bilateral cooperation include energy and transport sectors. Support of Turkmen initiatives in sustainable energy by Italy speaks of common approaches of the countries to this global problem, the Turkmen leader said.
Turkmenistan considers delivery of its energy bearers in the western direction and is working on legal and technical aspects together with the European Commission, he said.
"We hope Italy, as influential and reputed member of the European Union," will further provide necessary support to this process," President Berdimuhamedov said.
President Berdimuhamedov has invited the Italian President to visit Turkmenistan at any time convenient for him.
