AKIPRESS.COM - Kazakh skier Alexei Poltoranin was officially disqualified from tournaments until 2023 over doping, the International Ski Federation (FIS) reports.
The corresponding decision was made on Jan 2 by independent inspector. Two other Estonian skiers, Karel Tammjärv and Andreas Veerpalu, and representative of supporting personnel Mati Alaver, were also disqualified for 4 years.
The decision concerning Poltoranin, Tammjärv and Veerpalu entered into force on March 1, 2019, and concerning Alaver from August 28, 2019. Athletes may appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport within three weeks.
On Nov 29, 2019 it became known that Poltoranin was disqualified during the FIS cross-country world cup. Poltoranin, Tammjärv and Veerpalu were accused of doping.
Poltoranin was the medalist of world championships, as well as won 4 times at the Asian Games and participated in Olympics.
