Brawl occurs between two villages on Kyrgyz-Uzbek border over water issues

AKIPRESS.COM - Dozens of people gathered in the border area of Batken region on May 31.
Reportedly, the residents of the Chechme village in the Kadamjai district gathered to express dissatisfaction with the source of water. The area borders with the Sokh district of the Ferghana region of Uzbekistan.
Batken authorities reported that the conflict occurred at 13:30 between residents of the Chechme village in Kadamjai district and residents of the Chashma villages in the Sokh district of Uzbekistan. Both sides began throwing stones into each other in the result.
The heads of Kadamjai district Algynbai Imarov and the head of Sokh district arrivied on the spot. They called for a peaceful regulation of the conflict without escalation of the situation.
According to the head of the Birlik village council Jeenbek Makkambayev, the residents of the Chechme villagers annually gather to clean the water source. Today, the villagers work as usual. At this time, the residents of the Uzbek village began throwing stones, which caused the conflict between the citizens of the two countries.
