AKIPRESS.COM - Fugitive ex-Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Askarbek Shadiyev was sentenced in absentia to 13 years in prison and confiscation of property for illegal wealth by the Pervomaisky district court in Bishkek on June 10.
He was also fined 60,000 soms and deprived of the right to hold a post in the civil service for 2 years, the court's spokesperson Aizada Momunova said.
In 2018, according to authorities, Shadiyev fled the country to the USA through Tajikistan and Moscow using his diplomatic passport.
In 2019, Askarbek Shadiyev was sentenced to 10 years in prison in absentia, confiscation of property after being found guilty of power abuse during his tenure as a chairman of the parliament committee for foreign affairs. Chief of division of committee Arsen Zakirov stole the Chinghiz Aitmatov award worth $30,000. Additionally, after he fled Kyrgyzstan for New York, Shadiyev was probed for illegal crossing of the state border and announced internationally wanted.
