AKIPRESS.COM - Kyrgyzstan has tightened regulations to counter vote buying, Central Election Commission Vice Chairman Abdyjapar Bekmatov said.
Those who buy and sell votes will face sanctions, he said.
"The sanctions will be applied not only those who buy or sell votes, but candidate as well, in case his/her relatives, authorized representatives are involved into vote buying. Such candidate may be expelled from the race," Bekmatov said.
The fine for vote buying may reach up to 260,000 soms or 2.5 years in prison.
"We set up working groups at polling stations to promptly respond to vote buying. These groups include media representatives, law enforcers, representatives of political parties," Bekmatov said.
