No grounds for impeachment of President if he resigns voluntarily - Babanov

AKIPRESS.COM - "I have not held talks with President Sooronbai Jeenbekov," former leader of Respublika party Omurbek Babanov told a press conference today in Bishkek.
When asked to comment on the president's impeachment initiative, Babanov said: "We should stop lawlessness. Everything should be done in line with the law. The President said he is ready to resign. When the Parliament elects lawful government, he will keep his promise and resign. I do not see any grounds to impeach the President."
"This was a historic step - the statement about voluntary resignation. This is the rightest decision. He did not took the paths of the old presidents," Babanov said.
Babanov declared he returned in politics.
In December 2019, Omurbek Babanov declared he finished his political career. He stepped down as Respublika party leader and was succeeded by Mirlan Jeenchoroev.
