AKIPRESS.COM - Uzbekistan has gained the observer status in the Eurasian Economic Union.
Such decision was made at the virtual summit of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council attended by the leaders of the participating countries. President Mirziyoyev addressed the summit as well.
"We are convinced you won't remain observer for a long time and will make the decision in the near time to become a full member of our Council," Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said.
In May 2020, the Parliament of Uzbekistan approved the suggestion to participate in activities of the Eurasian Economic Union as an observer.
The Eurasian Economic Union is an international economic grouping functioning since January 2015. It includes Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Moldova has observer status.
