AKIPRESS.COM - On behalf of the Indian students, Ambassador of India to Kyrgyzstan Alok A. Dimri addressed the Kyrgyz authorities asking to postpone on-campus classes at medical faculties of Kyrgyz universities.
Up to 15,000 Indian students, who were repatriated back home amid coronavirus pandemic, study at these universities, the Ambassador noted.
Ambassador said that colleges in Osh and Kant have announced on-campus classes for spring semester beginning February 2021, but the coronavirus pandemic is still ravaging humanity.
"Given basic health infrastructure in Kyrgyz Republic, deficiency of paramedics, hospital beds and nearly 150 fresh cases daily, am doubtful if Kyrgyz medical campuses are ready to ensure safety, health, vaccination and indeed to prevent an outbreak within our student community. I am informed also of insufficient COVID emergency protocols, quarantine facilities, contact tracing, and emergency responses available to our student community," the message read.
"Am writing, therefore, to solicit Kyrgyz Government's attention in preventing human catastrophe with the reopening of campuses. A large number of students have demanded us to sensitize Kyrgyz authorities to continue with online spring semester until coronavirus tapers and effective vaccination guaranteed," Ambassador said.
