Presidents of Uzbekistan, Afghanistan hold phone talks

AKIPRESS.COM - President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev had a telephone conversation with President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani. Bilateral cooperation issues were in focus of discussions.
President Ashraf Ghani thanked the President of Uzbekistan for his support in ensuring peace and stability in Afghanistan and the economic reconstruction of this country.
The leaders noted with deep satisfaction the successful results of the first meeting of the trilateral working group on the promotion of the Trans-Afghan Transport Corridor project, which was attended by high representatives of Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as leading international financial institutions.
The importance of start of practical implementation of this project, including the preparation of technical documentation and implementation of construction activities was emphasized.
The Presidents agreed to ramp up implementation of the project for the construction of a new Surkhan - Puli-Khumri power transmission line. A bilateral mechanism will be established to coordinate implementation of the planned work.
Possible ways to boost bilateral cooperation in oil and gas industry, education and training of qualified Afghan technicians were also considered.
The agreement was reached on participation of the delegation of Uzbekistan in celebrations of 580th anniversary of Alisher Navoi in March in Herat.
Views were also exchanged on the schedule of the upcoming events and contacts at top and high levels.
The Presidents instructed to form a joint governmental group to monitor and promote implementation of the roadmap for cooperation and priority investment projects.
