AKIPRESS.COM - President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the delegation of the World Bank led by Vice President Anna Bjerde on May 18, the president's press service reported. Relevant aspects of further expansion of strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the World Bank Group were discussed during the meeting.
The total portfolio of projects reaches $7 billion. The current program includes 23 ongoing projects for $4.1 billion covering education, health care, energy, water supply, agriculture, transport and other spheres.
The agreements on improvement of water supply system and support of national innovative policy for around $300 million were signed during visit of the World Bank delegation.
The agreement was reached on preparation and adoption of a new 5-year program of partnership between Uzbekistan and the World Bank.
The World Bank highly values cooperation with Uzbekistan and intends to continue providing necessary support to economic and social reforms in the country, World Bank Vice President Anna Bjerde said.
The identified directions of partnership between Uzbekistan and the World Bank include support of reforms aimed at reduction of poverty; increase of effectiveness of higher education and health care sector reforms; facilitation of industrialization of the regions; introduction of green economy; reforms in land relations; fight against corruption and capacity building of public development institutes; joint facilitation of major regional infrastructure projects.
