AKIPRESS.COM - President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani, who arrived in Tashkent to attend the International Conference "Central and South Asia: Regional Connectivity. Challenges and Opportunities".
Prospects of cooperation to ensure regional security and sustainable development were considered during these talks, the Uzbek president's press service reported.
The leaders of two countries said the Afghan conflict should be resolved only peacefully and spoke for the soonest resumption of inclusive intra-Afghan talks.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed readiness of Uzbekistan to actively assist achievement of sustainable peace in Afghanistan.
Importance of further implementation of joint transport and energy infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening of connectivity between Central and South Asia was noted, including expansion of transit capacity of Afghanistan through implementation of such projects as construction of Termez-Mazar-e-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railway and construction of Surkhan-Puli-Khumri power transmission line.
The sides affirmed strong commitment to further development of bilateral and regional cooperation, ensuring practical realization of reached agreements.
