AKIPRESS.COM - The Bishkek mayor's office spent 15-20 million soms for New Year celebrations every year, vice mayor Jamalbek Irsaliev said on KTRK channel.
He said 18 million soms were spent for New Year celebrations in 2018.
"This is a huge amount. Instead of spending money for New Year tree decorations and fireworks, it's better to direct these funds for social needs," the vice mayor said.
The traditional mayor's New Year party for children won't be held this year, he added. 2,000 children from vulnerable groups will just receive New Year gifts.
The vice mayor reminded mass events are still prohibited due to Covid-19 pandemic.
