AKIPRESS.COM - 44 internal affairs officers were punished as a result of the official investigation following high-profile abduction and murder of Aizada Kanatbekova, which sparked a nationwide outcry pushing hundreds in Bishkek to protest.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that following official investigation, internal affairs employees were punished for improper performance of their official duties, which led to serious consequences.
By the order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Bishkek city police department chief Bakyt Matmusaev, his deputy, as well as Bishkek police department's head of investigation service, chief of Pervomay district police, his deputies, and other police officers were dismissed from their posts. The rest of the police employees received serious reprimands.
Aizada Kanatbekova was forcibly put into a car by a group of men in the morning of April 5 in Bishkek. Later she was found dead in the car outside Bishkek on April 7 by a local shepherd, who called the police. Her abductor strangled Aizada with a T-shirt and then killed himself, police said. The case caused nation-wide public outcry. Police were widely criticized and accused of inaction and negligence.
