Ex-mayor Surakmatov released after paying damage, plea-bargaining

AKIPRESS.COM - Former Bishkek mayor Aziz Surakmatov was released after plea-bargaining with investigators and paying compensation for damage done, according to the National Security Committee.
Surakmatov was detained on May 26 on corruption and illegal wealth charges.
Pervomai district court changed his arrest, and imposed travel ban until the end of the investigation of the criminal probe.
Surakmatov plea-bargained with the investigation testifying on illegal giving away of land plots in Bishkek. He paid 150 million soms out of 170 million soms of damage done.
The rest of the damage will be reimbursed by Surakmatov according to the repayment schedule, the statement said.
