AKIPRESS.COM - A group of people protesting against appointment of Nariman Tuleyev as acting mayor of Bishkek gathered outside the mayor's office today.
Several protesters entered the building to meet with Naiman Tuleyev. They were joined by members of the Bishkek local council. Supporters and opponents clashed in the mayor's office.
All people were taken out of the building then. Nariman Tuleyev joined the group.
Protesters demand from Nariman Tuleyev this post. They said this appointment was illegitimate. The mayor is appointed by the Prime Minister or approved by the Bishkek local council.
Supporters of Nariman Tuleyev formed a cordone in front of the mayor's office.
The two groups exchange insulting arguments.
Nariman Tuleyev said then he would meet with acting President, Prime Minister Sadyr Japarov. "I will meet with him now, if I am told to leave this post, I will leave it immediately," Tuleyev said.
Bishkek mayor Aziz Surakmatov resigned yesterday. He explained his resignation with the plan to run for the Parliament. Surakmatov appointed ex-Bishkek mayor Nariman Tuleyev as the first deputy mayor. "We worked together in the parliament, we were MPs from one faction. I negotiated with him for 4 days, he refused me for a long time. But today he agreed," Surakmatov told reporters.
